A Bit Of Seattle

Seattle was everything I hoped it would be and more. I can't even begin to describe the experience, although I will try...in another post entirely. But for now, here's some pictures I took with my cell as a placeholder.

"...she put her hands in the sky and left them there..."

Trees! This is a completely novel idea for an Arizonan.

Shameless Starbucks consumption before starting another day of classes.

A much needed sandwich (Ruebens tend to be my weapon of choice when I'm completely disregarding my knowledge of better eating choices. Still, it was delish!) after a long day of travel.

Being a complete dork (and wearing most of my Tucson winter wardrobe at once giving off a vibe I can only describe as Bag Lady Chic).

Some amazing pad see ew and pinot with the BFF on a rainy afternoon.

Bonus points if you can spot the Flight Of The Conchords decal!

A moment of peace and bliss in a super comfy bed with Seattles crisp air wafting through the room.

Before our dinner and burlesque date at The Pink Door (if you're visiting or already live in Seattle- GO! Amazing.)

Post Alley

My lovely companion in debauchery.

Some hilarious and hot sacrilege goin' on in the hospitality room. They served us angel food cake and wine.

Taking a (drunken) moment to be vain.

That's all for now! More to come...

A Wink and a Smile

Friday night I went out to partake in one of my absolute favorite activities- a burlesque show! My love for burlesque has been longstanding starting in early high school when my former drama club geek self finally found her sexuality, mixed the two and grew visions of giant feather fans, shimmy belts and seamed stockings. In fact-

Here we have me and my grandparents at my high school graduation where I was clad in a pencil skirt, corset (with a white button down underneath for the grandparents/parents/principal), red satin pumps and lame ass attempt at a victory roll with my bangs (they were too short).

Anyway it was something I missed very much so when I saw this

I made plans to get gussied up and go out despite getting my IUD plucked from my person that same afternoon (not nearly as horrible as having one put in though, thank the lawd).
There is just something absolutely magical about a burlesque show. You can feel the energy in the room, the excitement and watching the girls put out a piece of their imagination in such an awesome I-Am-Woman-Hear-Me-ROAR way is exhilarating. It reminded me why I still have a section in my closet it has touched

and it rekindled the place in my heart that it changed.

What I Wore-

I'm not to happy with this pic as the dress kept creeping up in the pic giving me a lumpy front. Ce'st la vie.

"Give 'em the ol' razzle dazzle..."

"How can they see with sequins in their eyes?"

Here's a pic of my almost finished costume for my first act-

The bra goes under the corset before the final reveal and the beaded fringe is designed to drape over the hips. I also have a full fringe dress that I start off in, but I've neglected taking photos of it.

I'll be performing to this song-

And I'm super excited/nervous/onthevergeofapanicattack about it. And if you happen to be in the Tucson area you should check us out-

Because burlesque is for lovers.

Under Pressure...

I'm a procrastinator. It has ranked very highly on my vice list in life, right above spending money at delectable thrift stores downtown. I have denied it, hated it, and as of late embraced it, even trying to justify my ways to people.

"See, that IS my strategy. To wait until the last minute and then bam! A fire lights under my ass and I get everything done in record time!"

"Uh-huh..."

Most people don't really procrastinate on things regarding their wedding. But here I am, two weeks away from standing in front of our friends and family reading vows and....I STILL haven't written them. Yes, I am sans vows at the moment. I just haven't found the best words to express yet. Words that are both sentimental without being sticky with sappiness. Once I do, I'll let you know, and hopefully soon, because...you know..the clock's kind of ticking...like really loud.

Along with the little devils in the details of the wedding, I find myself scrambling to pull together a badass routine for my first burlesque performance at The Surly Wench's 5th Anniversary/Birthday. I desperately want it to go perfectly, which is probably too much to expect for a first timer. But I'm a perfectionist when it comes to any art that I do, so we'll see.

All this- the wedding, the show, costume making, house hunting, choreogaphy working, etc, is happening NOW. And it isn't going to wait, I know, I have the calendar full of filled in boxes to prove it. So maybe now is as good as a time as any to scratch "procrastinating" off of my vices.

I'm still going to continue the thrift store perusing though. They can't take that away from me. No, no they can't take that away from me.
